Farzana Akter, an
uncapped wicketkeeper, has secured a spot in Bangladesh’s squad for the
forthcoming three-match One-Day International series against Australia. Nishita
Akter Nishi, 15, who participated in two One-Day Internationals against
Pakistan past year, is also included.
Farzana is moved aside by Shamima Sultana, who is a keeper-batter as well.
Along with Fariha Trisna, who was also in the South African reserves, Lata
Mondal and Shorifa Khatun, who were on the Bangladeshi team during that tour,
have been designated as standby players.
The Shere Bangla
National Stadium in Mirpur will host all three of the One-Day Internationals.
These are day matches. They compete in the ICC Women’s Championship, where
Australia leads the standings at the moment after winning 10 of the last 15
games. Bangladesh is ranked seventh in the ten-team standings, having won four
of their previous 15 games.
In their last three One-Day International series, Bangladesh has triumphed over
South Africa, Pakistan, and India. Bangladesh won one in a 1-1 series draw and
tied another with India in July. The match did not proceed to a Super Over
since the extra time allotted had passed before the game finished. In an ODI in
November in Mirpur, they did win a Super Over against Pakistan and managed to
pull off a 119-run win in East London the following month.
Bangladesh have
never hosted Australia previously. This tour will also comprise three T20Is –
also day games in Mirpur – which follow the ODIs.
