[Saba Sports News] A former Los Angeles Lakers big man, pivotal in last year’s playoff upset against the Memphis Grizzlies, has now joined the Grizzlies themselves.
HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto reports that Memphis has signed Wenyen Gabriel to a 10-day contract. Gabriel, who recently played for the NBA G League’s Wisconsin Herd, is gearing up for his first NBA stint of the 2023-24 season.
Last season with the Lakers, the 26-year-old averaged 5.5 points and 4.2 rebounds, contributing significant energy and playing a key role from the bench during their run to the Western Conference Finals, which included defeating the Grizzlies.
Currently, the Grizzlies are struggling with a 22-41 record, largely due to numerous injuries. Gabriel’s addition is timely, offering the team support as they navigate the season’s final stretch, and he’ll also have the chance to secure a longer-term NBA opportunity this summer.
