[Saba Sports News] On March 23, 2024, JioCinema, the official streaming platform for IPL, marked a remarkable start to the 2024 season with over 11.3 crore viewers tuning in on Day 1, a 51% surge compared to IPL 2023’s opening day. The platform’s second digital season commenced with over 59 Crore video views recorded on the opening day, resulting in 660 crore minutes of watch-time.
The inaugural match on JioCinema featured exclusive IPL anecdotes from cricket legends Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag, with Sehwag also providing commentary in Haryanvi for the first time. Renowned artist Badshah added flair to JioCinema’s Punjabi and Haryanvi commentary, enhancing the viewing experience.
A significant contributor to the record-breaking viewership was JioCinema’s free-to-play predict and win game, Jeeto Dhan Dhana Dhan. During the opening night contest, one lucky viewer bagged gold worth INR 50 lakhs, while others won substantial prizes, including gold worth INR 10 lakhs for the first runner-up and gold worth INR 1 lakh for more than 50 participants.
“We resumed where we left last year, and the numbers testify there is no better way to experience the IPL than digital,” said a Viacom18 spokesperson. “India has completed its transition to being a digital-first sports consuming nation.”
The opening match presentation featured six leading consumer brands debuting their IPL campaigns under the JioCinema Brand Spotlight, including Dream11, Charged by Thums Up, Parle Products, Britannia, Dalmia Cements, and HDFC Bank. This season commenced with a record 18 sponsors and over 250 advertisers.
