[Saba Sports News] Former Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni has assumed a different role for the five-time champions in the ongoing IPL 2024. The 42-year-old has stepped down as CSK skipper, with star batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad now leading the team.
CSK has made a remarkable start to their IPL 2024 campaign, winning both matches played this season. Their recent encounter was against Shubman Gill’s Gujarat Titans, held at their home ground, the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk.
During the match, CSK’s Rachin Ravindra dropped a catch on Sai Sudharsan, to which MS Dhoni had no visible reaction. When asked about this in a recent interview, Dhoni humorously remarked on his changed role, stating, “There’s a new captain, ah! It (muscle memory of Ravindra’s dropped catch) is there. But, I am not somebody who reacts a lot, especially when somebody is playing his first game or second game. I think Rutu (Gaikwad) is quite the same. But it was fun to watch him (Rachin) move all round the ground.”
Chennai Super Kings have won both their IPL 2024 matches under Ruturaj Gaikwad’s leadership, placing them at the top of the standings with four points in two matches.
The team’s exceptional form under Gaikwad’s guidance continues as they prepare to face Delhi Capitals in their next game at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on March 31, marking the 13th game of the tournament.
Before their clash with CSK, Delhi Capitals will be facing Rajasthan Royals on March 28. Led by Rishabh Pant, the Capitals aim to bounce back after a disappointing start to the tournament, having lost their opening game against Punjab Kings.
