[Saba Sports News] In a surprising development, former Indian cricketer Joginder Sharma, known for his role in India’s 2007 T20 World Cup victory, faces accusations of abetment of suicide of a Hisar resident named Pawan. The Haryana Police have filed a case against Sharma, who currently serves as the Deputy Superintendent of Police in Haryana, along with five others.
The complaint, lodged by Pawan’s mother Sunita on January 2, comes after her son’s suicide on January 1, reportedly due to a property dispute. According to Sunita, her son’s legal matter was still in court when the incident happened.
Pawan’s family, protesting outside the Hisar CMO Office since January 4, has refused to claim his body. They are demanding legal action under the Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and immediate arrest of the accused.
The other five individuals accused alongside Sharma are Ajayveer, Ishwar Jhajharia, Prem Khati, Arjun, and Rajendra Sihag, a hockey coach. An FIR has been filed against all six under IPC section 306 for abetment to suicide. Sunita’s FIR alleges that the case and continuous pressure from the accused led Pawan to take his life. She claims that Ajayveer and Arjun had asked Pawan to vacate his house the previous week and that her family had been harassed by the accused for years.
Sharma, who retired from all cricket formats in February 2023, has denied these allegations, stating he had no knowledge of Pawan or the case. “I am unaware of this case. I don’t know Pawan and have never met him,” Sharma said, as reported by India Today.
