[Saba Sports News] Carmelo Anthony, with 19 seasons in the NBA, has certainly heard his share of unusual stories. Recently, in response to Deandre Ayton’s unique situation, Anthony was asked about the strangest excuse he’s encountered for a player missing a game.
He recounted hearing about a player who allegedly slipped in the shower. Anthony found this excuse peculiar, questioning the level of activity one would be engaging in to slip in such a setting. He suggested that a shower should be a place for simply standing and washing, acknowledging that slipping might happen due to a soap-slicked floor, though he found it uncommon and didn’t reveal the player’s identity.
In a related anecdote, Paul George shared a story about Danny Granger missing a game against Anthony, reportedly due to slipping in the shower. George joked that Granger had “Melo-itis,” a reluctance to guard Anthony, and this story might have been shared with Anthony when they played together for Oklahoma City Thunder. While Granger could be a candidate for Anthony’s reference, it’s not confirmed.
Other known instances of players having shower-related accidents include Rajon Rondo breaking his hand in 2014 and John Wall rupturing his Achilles in 2019, both attributed to slips related to shower activities.
