[Saba Sports News] Shreyanka Patil made her ODI debut in the India-Australia series at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on December 30, a significant addition to the Indian team. The 21-year-old received her first ODI cap from Captain Harmanpreet Kaur, a memorable moment for the young cricketer.
Her ascent to the international scene was propelled by her outstanding performance in the T20I series against England, where she claimed five wickets and was named Player of the Match in the final game. This success earned her a place in the ODI squad, stepping in for left-arm spinner Saika Ishaque. The BCCI Women’s official Twitter account celebrated her debut, sharing the news of her receiving the cap from Captain Harmanpreet.
The BCCI captioned the post,”Shreyanka Patil is all set to make her ODI Debut in Mumbai 😃👌 She receives the cap from Captain Harmanpreet 🤗.”
Shreyanka’s cricketing journey has been remarkable. She started with the Women’s Premier League (WPL) for Royal Challengers Bangalore, then played for the India Emerging team in the Asia Cup, and India A against England, consolidating her position in the national team.
Her notable achievements include being the first Indian to play in the Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WCPL), where she represented Guyana Amazon Warriors and emerged as the top wicket-taker with nine wickets.
With India needing a win after losing the first match by six wickets, Shreyanka’s inclusion adds a fresh element to the team. Despite strong performances from Jemimah Rodrigues and Pooja Vastrakar in the previous match, India couldn’t secure a win. Australia, with commendable performances from Phoebe Litchfield, Ellyse Perry, and Tahlia McGrath, chased down the target effortlessly.
The focus is now on Shreyanka as Indian fans hope her ODI debut will mark a turnaround in the series, giving the team a chance to level the series against Alyssa Healy’s strong Australian team.
