[Saba Sports News] The Cleveland Cavaliers, experiencing an average start to their season, now face a significant setback due to a key player’s injury.
Darius Garland, the team’s star guard, will be out of action for several weeks following a fractured jaw incurred during a game against the Boston Celtics. This news was reported by Shams Charania of The Athletic.
In a somewhat unusual incident, Garland sustained the injury while attempting a play against Boston’s Kristaps Porzingis, resulting in a collision with Porzingis’ torso.
Garland, 23, has risen to prominence with the Cavaliers since being selected as the fifth overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. So far this season, he’s been averaging 20.7 points and 5.9 assists over 20 games.
Last year, the Cavaliers made it to the playoffs, but they’ve had a lukewarm start this year with a 13-12 record. Garland’s absence for the coming weeks is likely to be a challenging hurdle for the team.
