[Saba Sports News] Following the departures of young talents RJ Barrett, 23, and Immanuel Quickley, 24, the New York Knicks appear to be considering the trade of another promising player. It has been reported this week that discussions about the future of Knicks guard Quentin Grimes are circulating in league circles.
Despite the vacancies left by Barrett and Quickley, Siegel notes that Grimes’ role isn’t expected to expand significantly, with Donte DiVincenzo likely absorbing most of the available playtime.
Grimes, a 23-year-old third-year shooting guard, was once highly valued by the Knicks, to the extent of being deemed untouchable in trade negotiations. However, this season has seen a decline in his performance, with an average of just 6.2 points per game and a career-low field goal percentage of 39.6%.
Demoted to the bench in early December, Grimes hasn’t returned to the starting lineup since. Around the same time, he publicly expressed dissatisfaction with his role on the team.
Despite his current challenges, Grimes, a former first-round pick, still possesses significant potential as a spot-up three-point shooter and effective on-ball defender. Nevertheless, a separation between him and the Knicks might be beneficial for both parties at this juncture.
