[Saba Sports News] Nagpur Police arrested former Indian cricketer Prashant Vaidya on January 31 due to a cheque-bouncing case. The 56-year-old was later released on a surety bond after being presented in court. Vaidya had given a cheque to a local trader for a steel purchase, which was dishonored. The trader, upon not receiving a fresh payment, resorted to legal action leading to a non-bailable warrant after Vaidya missed court hearings, as per a report by Hindustan Times and Bajaj Nagar police station inspector Vitthalsingh Rajput.
Vaidya, a former right-arm fast bowler, now heads the Cricket Development Committee at the Vidarbha Cricket Association. He also worked as a talent scout for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL. Vaidya made his international debut against Australia in Dunedin in February 1995, with his first wicket being David Boon.
In his brief international career, Vaidya played four ODIs, taking four wickets with an average of 43.50. His best figures were against Bangladesh in 1995, where he took 2/41. His last international appearance was against South Africa in the 1996 Sharjah Cup.
In domestic cricket, Vaidya has an impressive record with 171 wickets in 56 First Class matches and 46 wickets in List A games. He also contributed with the bat in First Class cricket, scoring over a thousand runs with five half-centuries.
