[Saba Sports News] The second Test of the recently-concluded series between India and South Africa ended on Day 2 in the fifth session, becoming the shortest completed match in the history of the format in terms of balls bowled.
23 wickets fell on Day 1, while 10 more wickets were taken by the fast-bowlers in one and a half sessions of Day 2. No spinner bowled even a single over in the entirety of the fixture.
India chased the 79-run target comprehensively, drawing a Test series in South Africa for the second time.
When asked about the nature of the Cape Town pitch, India captain Rohit Sharma refrained from bewailing, saying that he is fine with playing on such surfaces as long as the visiting sides do not complain about the rank-turners in India.
“I don’t mind playing on pitches like this as long as everyone keeps their mouth shut in India & doesn’t complain about Indian pitches. You come here to challenge yourself and when people come to India it is challenging as well,” Rohit said as quoted in the post-match presser.
He further brought to notice the hypocrisy of those, who criticise the wickets, which offer spin from Day 1 of the Test but do not give a similar treatment to the pace-friendly tracks.
“We know pitches in India will spin but people don’t like it because it turns from ball one but if it seams from ball one, that is OK? That is not fair,” he added.
