[Saba Sports News] India, after a drawn T20I series and a commanding victory in the ODI series, is set to face South Africa in a two-match Test series. The series opener at SuperSport Park in Centurion on December 26 represents a significant opportunity for India, as they have never clinched a Test series in South Africa. Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Bangar offered insights into why India hasn’t achieved this feat yet.
Bangar suggested that the lack of longer Test series in South Africa is a key factor. According to him, playing only two or three matches doesn’t allow the Indian team to fully acclimatize to the South African conditions. “India’s inability to win Test series in South Africa is not due to lack of skill but because they play shorter series of 2 or 3 matches. A four or five-match series would likely improve their performance,” Bangar stated on Star Sports.
The upcoming Test series, starting December 26 and with the second match commencing on January 3, sees India entering with high morale following their ODI success. The Test squad will be bolstered by the return of senior players, including skipper Rohit Sharma and key figures like Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, and Ravichandran Ashwin.
This upcoming series poses an intriguing challenge for India, as they seek to secure their first-ever Test series win on South African soil following their triumph in the ODI format.
