[Saba Sports News] In a recent court case in
Spain, the Spanish National Court has invalidated the “Television
Broadcasting Regulations” that were approved in 2018. This decision comes
as a response to the “Audiovisual Regulations” introduced by Javier
Tebas Medrano, marking a second ruling by the Spanish National Court. As a
result, the current regulations will be abolished, signifying a partial victory
for Real Madrid in their ongoing dispute over broadcast rights. The regulations
were deemed to have significantly infringed upon the clubs’ rights and exceeded
the granted powers and authorities. The release of the regulations had already
sparked discontent among the league’s teams. Real Madrid, being a prominent club
in La Liga, was the first to publicly express their dissatisfaction and take a
stand. The court ruling also emphasized that the delimitation of time and space
should not be over-interpreted and should not require legislative intervention
to enforce the transfer of audiovisual rights.
