[Saba Sports News] Prominent Indian cricketer Suryakumar Yadav will be sidelined until February 2024 due to a Grade-II ankle tear. He sustained the injury while captaining the T20I team in South Africa, twisting his ankle in the third match at Johannesburg’s New Wanderers Stadium. Suryakumar, currently holidaying in London with his wife Devisha Shetty, was seen using a pneumatic walker boot for his left ankle.
In a light-hearted video on Instagram, he humorously compared himself to ‘Ballu’ from the Bollywood film ‘Welcome’, a character who pretends to have a leg injury. Despite his condition, Suryakumar remains upbeat, sharing a message with his fans about his recovery and enjoying the holiday season.
He captioned the video, “On a slightly serious note, injuries are never fun, but I’ll take it in my stride and promise to be back, fully fit, in no time! 💪 Till then, hope you all are enjoying the holiday season and finding little joys, every day. 🤗 ✨.”
Suryakumar’s absence is notable given his recent performance, including a stunning century in the third T20I, contributing to India’s 200-plus score with 100 runs off 56 balls. This marked his fourth T20I century, joining the ranks of Rohit Sharma and Glenn Maxwell as the third player to achieve four T20I centuries. He reached this milestone in just 57 innings, boasting 2141 T20I runs at an average of 45.55 and a strike rate of 171.55.
With Suryakumar and Hardik Pandya both injured, India faces the challenge of appointing a new captain for the upcoming T20I series against Afghanistan starting January 11.
