[Saba Sports News] England’s white-ball captain, Jos Buttler, has officially changed his name to “Josh Buttler” after years of enduring mispronunciations and misspellings. The England Cricket Board (ECB) announced this change in a humorous video shared on its official social media platform.
Despite being one of England’s most consistent performers across various cricket formats for years, Buttler has faced the frustration of people consistently getting his name wrong throughout his career. Even his mother has misspelled it on birthday cards, and shockingly, his MBE medal had the wrong name engraved, reading “Josh” instead of “Jos.”
In the video released by the ECB, Buttler humorously expressed his frustration with the ongoing name confusion. He emphasized the need to fix the problem once and for all after representing England for over a decade and winning two World Cups.
“Hi there. I’m England white-ball captain Jos Buttler. But for my entire life, I’ve been called the wrong name, From people on the street to my mum and in my birthday card. Dear Josh, you’re getting old. Happy birthday. Lots of Love, Mum,”
Buttler’s announcement to officially become “Josh Buttler” was met with a playful response from the producer, who mistakenly called him “Jos” instead of “Josh,” prompting Buttler to humorously react.
“So after 13 years representing my country and two World Cup wins, it’s time to finally fix the problem. To solve the problem once and for all, I am officially Josh Buttler,” Buttler joked.
Currently representing the Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2024, Buttler (formerly Jos Buttler) has had a slow start with the bat, scoring only 22 runs in total in two games played. However, his impressive record against Mumbai Indians, with 485 runs at an average of nearly 70, provides him with confidence ahead of their upcoming clash on April 1.
Buttler aims for a strong IPL season to prepare for defending the ICC T20 World Cup title in June in the USA and Caribbean, where his leadership was instrumental in England’s triumph in the 2022 edition.
