Michael Scotto of HoopsHype has shared that the Kings are hesitant to include Murray in trade discussions. However, they seem open to trading future first-round picks, and guard Davion Mitchell might be another potential trade option.
At 23 years old, Murray stands out as the most promising player under 25 on the Kings’ roster. His versatility allows him to play both forward positions effectively, and he fits well in the starting lineup with teammates De’Aaron Fox, Kevin Huerter, Harrison Barnes, and Domantas Sabonis. Murray, the No. 4 overall pick, is not only a strong defender at 6-foot-8 but also excels as one of the NBA’s top corner three-point shooters.
However, Sacramento’s protective stance on Murray could limit their ability to land a major player at the trade deadline, such as Pascal Siakam, Zach LaVine, or Jerami Grant. Mitchell, a role player averaging just over five points per game this season, might not be as attractive in trade deals, especially with other teams likely offering more competitive packages.
Nonetheless, the argument for retaining Murray is strong, considering his significant contributions to the team. This season, he ranks fourth in scoring with 13.2 points per game and third in rebounding with 6.2 per game, exceeding expectations set for him on draft day.
