[Saba Sports News] At the recently concluded Indonesia Badminton Open, Danish badminton player Viktor Axelsen withdrew from the tournament, allowing Chinese badminton player Shi Yu Qi to overtake him in the BWF standings. Shi Yu Qi is expected to claim the top spot in the world rankings next week. Axelsen recently shared an update on social media, posting a lighthearted video in which he joked, “Enjoy the last few days of being the world’s number one.” Fans flooded the comment section with reassuring messages, stating, “Don’t worry, you will soon regain the top spot.” Axelsen indeed has a significant chance of reclaiming the world’s number one rank. Known for his attacking and defensive prowess, his exceptional performance in the 2022 season boasts a winning percentage of over 90% with only three losses. However, Shi Yu Qi should not be underestimated. As China’s current top badminton player, the gap in strength between him and Axelsen is minimal. He achieved a commendable record of 13 wins and 1 loss in the 2024 season, showcasing his strong capabilities and potential.
