[Saba Sports News] The Golden State Warriors are moving quickly after losing Klay Thompson in free agency.
According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Warriors have agreed to a one-year deal with veteran guard De’Anthony Melton for the $12.8 million mid-level exception. Melton, known for his solid defense and all-around play, is not a direct replacement for Thompson and might fill Chris Paul’s role more effectively. Last season, Melton played 38 games for the Philadelphia 76ers, averaging 11.1 points in 26.9 minutes per game during an injury-hit campaign.
The agreement follows Thompson’s decision to join a new team, but the Warriors still need to finalize a sign-and-trade agreement. Adding Melton is a good move, but likely not the last one for Golden State.
