[Saba Sports News] The Los Angeles Lakers attempted to acquire Klay Thompson from the Golden State Warriors, but their efforts were unsuccessful.
Chris B. Haynes of Bleacher Report reported Monday that the Lakers offered Thompson a contract worth around $20 million annually, along with a proposed sign-and-trade deal involving D’Angelo Russell. However, the Warriors were not interested. It’s unclear whether the Warriors’ disinterest in Russell was the primary issue or if Thompson simply preferred to join the Dallas Mavericks. If the latter, Thompson chose significantly less money with Dallas compared to the Lakers’ offer.
The Warriors previously had Russell on their roster four years ago, which did not work out, so it makes sense they wouldn’t want to revisit that arrangement even after Thompson’s departure.
