[Saba Sports News] While the Lakers’ drafting of Bronny James has faced heavy scrutiny, an anonymous NBA executive told Heavy’s Steve Bulpett that Bronny’s stint at USC shouldn’t be held against him.
The executive praised Bronny’s character and potential, stating that his poor numbers don’t reflect his true abilities and potential for development.
“You can’t judge much from his season at USC. It was a dysfunctional team, and he came in late due to protocols. One year isn’t indicative of who he is or what he can be,” said the executive. “The Lakers saw something good in him during workouts and interviews. A lot of teams saw potential but were scared off by the attention of having LeBron’s son. Only the Lakers were willing to take that chance.”
Bronny’s college year was marred by a cardiac arrest and USC’s overall chaos, limiting his impact. He averaged 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists, shooting 36.6% from the field and 26.6% from three-point range in limited minutes.
Bronny will get a chance to develop in the G-League with the South Bay Lakers, which is considered the right place for his growth despite the criticisms.
