[Saba Sports News] Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was unhappy with Greece at the end of Canada’s Olympic opener on Saturday, leading to a postgame confrontation.
Canada edged out Greece 86-79, with Gilgeous-Alexander contributing 21 points and seven assists. After the game, he confronted Greece’s Giannoulis Larentzakis for bumping Nickeil Alexander-Walker. Although the situation didn’t escalate, Gilgeous-Alexander was visibly furious and had to be held back by teammates, eventually being shoved away by Giannis Antetokounmpo, who seemed unaware of the incident.
Gilgeous-Alexander later explained that he wanted to send a message about Larentzakis’s behavior. While it didn’t become a major incident, it shows Canada’s serious approach as they aim for a medal and prepare for a potential clash with Team USA.
