[Saba Sports News] Bangladesh is set to host the next ICC board meeting and possibly the election of the sport’s governing body, announced Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hasan on Sunday, July 28.
Greg Barclay, the current ICC chairman, was unanimously re-elected in November 2022 for a second two-year term that expires later this year.
“The next ICC board meeting will be in Dhaka, and the election might take place here,” Nazmul told reporters during an impromptu press conference at the secretariat.
Nazmul mentioned that while the ICC had concerns about unrest in Bangladesh, his presence at the latest ICC board meeting assured them that Bangladesh is prepared to host the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup.
Previously, BCB chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury and BCB women’s wing chairman Shafiul Alam Chowdhury Nadel had expressed similar sentiments.
There were reports that ICC members were monitoring the situation in Bangladesh, where the government imposed an emergency last week to control public protests.
Nazmul confirmed these concerns but insisted that representatives from various countries were convinced that the tournament could proceed as scheduled after his arrival at the ICC meeting in Sri Lanka.
“When I arrived, the country’s situation was dire, and there was no communication with Bangladesh from outside. They were quite afraid,” Nazmul said. “But after seeing me, they were convinced everything is alright. After that, there was no further discussion about it. Our priority is the Women’s World Cup we will host here,” he said.
