[Saba Sports News] Utah Jazz star Lauri Markkanen has put trade rumors to rest for at least another year by signing a new 5-year, $238 million contract, including $200 million in new money.
His agent, Michael Lelchitski of SIG Sports, confirmed the deal to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. The timing is key: by waiting until Aug. 7 to sign, Markkanen is ineligible for a trade until next offseason.
Markkanen’s decision ties him to Utah for another season, reflecting his desire to stay with the Jazz. He averaged 23.2 points and 8.2 rebounds last season, shooting nearly 40 percent from three-point range.
At least one Western Conference contender was eyeing him, but the Jazz clearly value him highly.
