[Saba Sports News] According to British media reports, some Premier League teams believe that the revenue from holding preseason games in the United States did not meet expectations. The reports state that the Premier League hopes to bring the summer preseason back to the U.S. next year, but it is currently facing challenges from many teams. From July 22 to July 30, 2023, Chelsea, Brighton, Brentford, Newcastle, Fulham, and Aston Villa participated in the first-ever Premier League Summer Series held in the United States. At that time, over 260,000 fans attended these matches, which were broadcast by NBC. NBC had signed a $450 million per season sponsorship deal with the Premier League. This summer, ten teams traveled to the U.S. for preseason, but we did not see a repeat of previous success. This was partly due to coverage of the Paris Olympics. Additionally, some top clubs have questioned the Premier League’s approach, believing they could generate more revenue by organizing their own tours. It is reported that the Premier League is currently developing a plan for Manchester United and Liverpool to participate in a four-to-six team tournament in late July, with Arsenal possibly joining as well.
