[Saba Sports News] The New Orleans Pelicans star has been sidelined since early November with a hamstring injury, managing to play in only six of the team’s first 22 games. Unfortunately for Pelicans fans, the outlook isn’t improving.
According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Williamson is still far from returning to action. Appearing on The Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday, Charania shared a discouraging update:
“[Zion Williamson] is still out about a month later,” Charania said. “He’s not close to coming back. He’s not going to come back this week or next week. … That hamstring, it’s been a chronic issue for him.”
While Williamson has reportedly begun some “very, very light activity” on the basketball court, the characterization of his hamstring injury as a “chronic issue” is a troubling development.
This latest setback is part of a pattern for Williamson, who has dealt with injuries every season of his NBA career.
He entered training camp in excellent shape, raising hopes with viral photos of his slimmed-down physique and dominant preseason performances.
In the six games he has played this season, Williamson averaged 22.7 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 5.0 assists, albeit on a career-low 45.2% shooting.
While his talent remains undeniable, his inability to stay on the court continues to frustrate both the Pelicans and their fans.
