[Saba Sports News] Lonzo Ball recently shared how a relentless training regimen, driven by his father LaVar’s “military discipline,” molded the Ball brothers into NBA-caliber athletes.
Speaking on Gil’s Arena, Lonzo recounted the grueling summer schedules that formed the bedrock of their basketball careers.
“Our summers were no joke,” Lonzo said. “We were up at 7 a.m. every day. First, we’d hit the hill—a mile run followed by 12 to 18 sprints. That alone took over an hour. Then it was back home for sit-ups, weights, or pull-ups depending on the day, which added another hour. Finally, we’d get to hoop for two hours. By the time we were done, it was around 11 a.m., and that was just the start of the day.”
After training, the brothers had free time, often spent playing football, swimming, or more basketball, but the mornings were rigidly structured. Lonzo reflected on how every aspect of their lives, from workouts to meals, was meticulously scheduled.
“It was militant,” he admitted. “We ate breakfast, dinner, and worked out at the same times every day. It was all set up to bring out the best in us.”
This rigorous lifestyle wasn’t just about physical conditioning—it built discipline, resilience, and an unshakable work ethic. The shared routine bonded Lonzo, LiAngelo, and LaMelo, preparing them for the rigors of professional basketball.
Looking back, Lonzo credits the tough regimen for instilling habits that prepared him for NBA life. While challenging, it’s clear the Ball brothers’ success is deeply rooted in the structure and persistence their father enforced early on.
