[Saba Sports News] Joel Embiid’s string of bad luck this season didn’t take a break for Christmas.
During pregame warmups on Wednesday, the Philadelphia 76ers star suffered a right ankle injury in an unusual sequence.
While attempting a fadeaway three-pointer from the right side, Embiid’s momentum carried him backward into a courtside employee, causing him to tumble into the front-row area and grab his ankle in pain.
The moment, captured on video by the beIN SPORTS feed, showed Embiid briefly continuing his warmup before walking off gingerly.
He didn’t return until moments before tip-off against the Boston Celtics. Despite the scare, Embiid suited up for the game and delivered a strong performance, tallying 27 points and nine rebounds to help the 76ers upset Boston 118-114.
This season has been a challenging one for the former MVP, who has appeared in just nine of Philadelphia’s 28 games due to injuries and recent ejections. Wednesday’s bizarre mishap added to his streak of misfortune, but Embiid’s resilience was on full display as he powered the Sixers to a key win.
