[Saba Sports News] On the afternoon of January 5, Denmark’s Olympic badminton champion Viktor Axelsen expressed his excitement on his personal account in three languages for being awarded Denmark’s Athlete of the Year on his birthday. In his tweet, Axelsen thanked His Majesty King Frederik X for personally presenting the award, as well as his fans, sponsors, family, and friends. He felt honored to be named Athlete of the Year and to receive the BT Gold Award, remarking that this year’s birthday was particularly memorable. This is Axelsen’s third time receiving the award after 2017 and 2021, a feat no other athlete has achieved. At Denmark’s annual sports gala, Hans Natorp, chairman of the DIF and a member of the judging panel, described Axelsen as a tremendous winner and a great role model, inspiring both adults and children on and off the court.
