[Saba Sports News] If Kevin Durant decides to leave the Phoenix Suns this summer, Carmelo Anthony has an unexpected destination in mind.
On a new episode of his 7PM in Brooklyn podcast, Anthony suggested that Durant should finish his career with the Washington Wizards.
He argued that with multiple championships already under his belt, Durant should return to his hometown to close out his playing days.
“I would like to see him on the Wizards. That’s just me personally,” Anthony said.
“End it back home. You ain’t got to go chase. You already got your rings. Go to the Wizards. Bring the energy back to DC. You’re home.
“Your family, your mom, your friends are there. Go rekindle that fire in DC. And they got pieces now… Let KD bring the energy back, flood the arena, sell the tickets, bring the smoke back.
“Give KD his farewell tour after a couple of years and then Alex Sarr takes it from there.”
While the Wizards would likely welcome the idea, it’s unclear if Durant would be on board. Although he has won two championships, the 36-year-old doesn’t seem ready to walk away from title contention just yet.
Washington, currently sitting at 10-48, is far from a contender, and even adding Durant wouldn’t be enough to change that overnight.
Durant has also previously stated that playing in his hometown isn’t something that particularly interests him. While that mindset could shift, he didn’t seem eager to do it the last time he was a free agent.
Despite the Suns’ struggles this season, Durant has continued to perform at an elite level, averaging 26.9 points per game while shooting nearly 53% from the field.
If he does move on from Phoenix, his most likely destination is still a team with championship aspirations—something the Wizards certainly don’t fit at the moment.
