[Saba Sports News] As the Los Angeles Lakers inch closer to full health, they may no longer have room for two of their former high draft picks.
According to Jovan Buha of The Athletic, the Lakers are considering converting some of their two-way players into standard contracts ahead of the April 13 deadline. If that happens, the odd men out could be forward Cam Reddish and center Alex Len — both former lottery picks.
“There’s a chance [all three two-way guys get converted], but realistically, it’s probably not gonna happen,” Buha said on his podcast. “The only two obvious players to cut on the roster are Cam Reddish and Alex Len.”
Reddish, 25, was the No. 10 pick in 2019 and is known for his defensive potential on the wing. Len, 31, was drafted No. 5 in 2013 and brings size at 7 feet.
However, both have been used sparingly this season, mostly filling in during injury-related absences or load-management games. They’re also on cheap, expiring deals, making them expendable.
With LeBron James (groin) nearing a return and Rui Hachimura (knee) also close to rejoining the lineup, the Lakers’ frontcourt is getting crowded.
Currently, L.A. has three players on two-way contracts: guard Jordan Goodwin, and big men Trey Jemison III and Christian Koloko.
All three are in their mid-20s and offer youth, upside, and depth — assets the Lakers might prefer to invest in down the stretch rather than holding onto Reddish and Len, who haven’t carved out meaningful roles.
