[Saba Sports News] On March 24, Canadian-Chinese badminton star Michelle Li Man-shan posted on her social media account, revealing that during the All England Badminton Open, she was randomly attacked by a drug addict while walking outside her hotel. Fortunately, the attacker was not armed with a knife or other sharp objects, and other witnesses on-site intervened in time, allowing Li to escape with only minor injuries. Li revealed that she had pain in her ribs for many days and was bedridden, initially thinking she would be unable to participate in the Swiss Badminton Open. However, she recovered quickly and not only participated in the Swiss event but also made it to the semifinals, bouncing back from her earlier first-round exits in the previous two tournaments. After her post, Li received many well-wishes from fans, who urged her to stay safe and keep pushing forward. Tokyo Olympic women’s singles champion Chen Yufei also quickly showed her support for Li. Records show that Li was born on November 3, 1991, in Hong Kong, and immigrated to Canada with her family at the age of six. She currently resides in Markham, Ontario, and studies at the University of Toronto. Her highest world ranking reached eighth in women’s singles, but her performance has declined in the past two years due to injuries and age.
