[Saba Sports News] The Sacramento Kings have chosen their next full-time head coach.
According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Kings plan to retain Doug Christie, removing his interim title and finalizing a multi-year contract to keep him in the role permanently. Christie emerged as the frontrunner after stepping in as interim head coach following the dismissal of Mike Brown last December.
Christie, who had served as an assistant coach since 2021, built strong relationships within the locker room and made no secret of his desire to take over the job full-time. His deep ties to the franchise also strengthened his candidacy—he played for the Kings from 2000 to 2005, earning All-Defensive Team honors four times during that stretch.
This marks Christie’s first head coaching position at any level. He led the Kings to a 27-24 record during his interim stint last season, though the team ultimately missed the playoffs after falling to the Dallas Mavericks in the play-in tournament.
