[Saba Sports News] An NBA franchise is officially up for sale.
The Portland Trail Blazers announced Tuesday that they are being put on the market by the estate of late owner Paul Allen.
The sale process is expected to extend into the upcoming season. In the same statement, the estate clarified that the Seattle Seahawks — also under Allen’s ownership — are not for sale.
The Blazers have operated under Allen’s estate since his passing in 2018, but the team has struggled in that span. They last reached the playoffs in 2021 and have now endured four straight losing seasons.
Forbes valued the Trail Blazers at $3.5 billion in 2024, ranking them 24th among the NBA’s 30 franchises. By comparison, the Boston Celtics recently sold for a record-setting \$6.1 billion — the highest price ever paid for a North American sports team.
While the Trail Blazers’ on-court performance and small-market location may temper expectations, NBA franchises rarely hit the open market. That scarcity is likely to drive significant interest in the sale.
