[Saba Sports News] The Boston Celtics are heading into a pivotal offseason with several major decisions on the table. After Jayson Tatum’s Achilles tear in the playoffs against the New York Knicks, he’s expected to miss most—if not all—of the 2025-26 season.
Without their franchise cornerstone, Boston is no longer viewed as a top contender in the Eastern Conference, which may prompt the front office to retool the roster with an eye on contending again in 2026-27.
One of the big questions is the future of veteran guard Jrue Holiday. While Holiday remains a valued leader and defensive standout, he’s approaching 35 and has shown signs of decline offensively over the past two seasons. The Celtics could look to move him to shed salary and stockpile future assets.
According to Matt Moore, Boston has now established its asking price for a Holiday trade.
“Hall of Famer Marc Stein reported this weekend that Boston is in fact listening to trade offers for Holiday, something most people assumed,” Moore wrote. “While the focus has been on reducing payroll, sources have told the Paroxysm that Boston is setting the price at a first-round pick along with whatever reduced salary comes back in the deal.”
If Holiday is made available, the Sacramento Kings are one potential suitor. Brett Siegel recently reported that the Kings have interest in the veteran guard.
“Jrue Holiday is a veteran player the Sacramento Kings have interest in, sources said,” Siegel wrote. “Whether or not Holiday is made available in trade talks by Boston is the ultimate question. New GM Scott Perry has made it clear his team needs a true point guard, and he was always a fan of Holiday when he worked with the New York Knicks.”
According to Siegel, Perry had previously considered acquiring Holiday before he was dealt to Milwaukee in 2020.
Holiday could be a strong fit in Sacramento, especially on the defensive end, where the Kings struggled last season. However, whether the Kings—or any team—are willing to part with a first-round pick for an aging guard with a sizable contract remains uncertain.
As the Celtics weigh their options and attempt to reshape their roster in Tatum’s absence, Holiday’s future will be one of the key storylines to watch this offseason.
