[Saba Sports News] The New York Knicks reportedly have Jason Kidd near the top of their head coaching wish list, but their efforts to bring him to Madison Square Garden have hit a major setback.
Kidd, currently the head coach of the Dallas Mavericks, was formally requested for an interview by the Knicks on Wednesday morning. According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Mavericks responded with a “firm rejection.” This comes one day after New York was also denied permission to speak with two other sitting head coaches—Minnesota’s Chris Finch and Houston’s Ime Udoka.
Following the surprising firing of Tom Thibodeau last week, the Knicks appear to be prioritizing candidates with significant NBA head coaching experience. However, they may now be forced to turn their attention toward coaches who are not currently under contract.
