[Saba Sports News] It can’t be easy for Chicago Bulls guard Josh Giddey to watch the Oklahoma City Thunder chase a championship without him, especially since he was once seen as a cornerstone of their young core.
Still, the 22-year-old is supporting his former teammates in his own way.
On the eve of an NBA Finals matchup between the Thunder and Pacers, Giddey pulled a lighthearted — and slightly NSFW — prank on his close friend and former teammate, Thunder forward Jaylin Williams.
“I’m just calling to say goodnight,” Giddey said during the call, prompting Williams to burst out laughing. Not quite in the mood for antics during the biggest series of his career, Williams responded, “Bro, get off my phone with that bull***t.” Giddey wrapped up the call with, “Have a good sleep, sweet dreams.”
Their exchange speaks to the strong bond they built during their two seasons together in Oklahoma City, where Giddey was part of a tightly knit locker room that grew up together on and off the court.
Ultimately, the Thunder decided to shake things up, sending Giddey to the Bulls in exchange for defensive standout Alex Caruso — a move aimed at pushing OKC over the top. Giddey now shifts his focus to helping Chicago rediscover its winning ways. The 2021 No. 6 overall pick averaged 14.6 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 7.2 assists last season while shooting 46.5% from the field and 37.8% from three. As a restricted free agent, he’s due for a big payday if the Bulls see him as part of their future.
But for now, Giddey is enjoying some harmless fun and showing love to the teammates who helped shape the early years of his NBA journey — even if it’s through a prank call. Meanwhile, the Thunder and Pacers continue to battle it out in Game 4 of the Finals.
