Yonex Canada Open 2025 will be held from July 1 to 6 at the Markham Pan Am Centre in Markham, Ontario, Canada. Notably, the Badminton World Federation (BWF) previously announced in a statement that the cost of hosting international events has risen significantly. As a result, the BWF and the Canadian Badminton Association have decided to downgrade the Canada Open from a Super 500 event to a Super 300 event. Additionally, the prize money for the tournament has been reduced by 42%, dropping from 420,000 last year to 240,000 this year. Due to the long travel and lack of proportional returns from North American events, many top players have opted not to participate. However, there are still several highly skilled players on the entry list.
In the men’s singles draw, the top seed is the renowned Taiwanese player Chou Tien-chen, who will be stationed in the top half. As the top seed, Chou has shown an impressive overall performance recently. He reached the finals of both the Taipei Open and the Indonesia Open, although he fell just short of winning each time. He also made it to the semifinals of the US Open, further demonstrating his strong form. Looking at the players in the top half, the main threat to Chou appears to be the third-seeded Japanese player Kenta Nishimoto. They are likely to meet in the semifinals.
