[Saba Sports News] According to RN365, Carlos Sainz insists that the FIA needs the flexibility to “re-review and re-analyze” penalties. This comes after Sainz received a time penalty and points deduction for a collision with Liam Lawson during the Dutch Grand Prix, which sparked his strong dissatisfaction. The Williams driver, who is also a director of the Grand Prix Drivers’ Association (GPDA), was angered by the decision to penalize him with a 10-second time penalty for the collision with Lawson. The incident caused both drivers to suffer punctures, ruining their chances of scoring points and their race at Zandvoort. Sainz made blunt remarks immediately after the race and expressed frustration over the inability to further discuss the ruling with race stewards. Ahead of the Italian Grand Prix, when asked by media if he still felt the same days later, Sainz stated: “Yes, I did have the opportunity to speak with them after the race. I was somewhat misunderstood in the TV pen… I thought I wouldn’t have the chance to discuss it, but in the end, I sat down with them for 15 minutes to analyze the incident. I clearly felt that once they gathered all available evidence and reviewed everything possible to make the right decision… I clearly realized that they might also have recognized that the initial decision was not the best.”
