[Saba Sports News] In the recently concluded China Badminton Open, the performance of Malaysian men’s singles player Lee Zii Jia was disappointing, as he suffered another first-round exit. The 27-year-old Lee returned to the court in August at the Paris World Badminton Championships after a five-month break due to injury. However, having been away from competition for so long, he failed to regain his form and was further hampered by new injuries. Consequently, he suffered first-round exits in three consecutive tournaments: the Paris World Championships, last week’s Hong Kong Badminton Super 500, and this week’s China Badminton Super 750. After his latest defeat, Lee stated that his exit was primarily due to not having fully recovered his physical condition. He mentioned that failing to secure the first game despite a significant lead reflected a lack of rhythm and stability. He admitted that his current form is not yet at its best and that there is still much work to be done, but he emphasized that he will not give up and will continue working hard to regain his form. We believe this is not just a single match loss but reflects the cumulative effect of recurring injuries and a form slump. In the short term, a drop in rankings and tougher draws will increase the difficulty of subsequent tournaments; in the long term, if adjustments are not made promptly, it could impact future performances.
