The defense is anchored by Manuel Akanji, who averages 4.3 clearances, 1.8 tackles, and 0.8 interceptions per game in Serie A, serving as the backbone of the backline. In the last four World Cup qualifying campaigns, Switzerland topped their group three times and finished second once, only behind Portugal due to an inferior goal difference. This demonstrates Switzerland’s extensive experience in major tournaments and their ability to navigate through qualifiers.

While Sweden may boast more top-tier stars in their midfield and attack, their forwards often rely on individual efforts rather than cohesive teamwork. Considering football is a team sport where success depends on collective coordination, Switzerland excels in teamwork compared to Sweden.
