[Saba Sports News] A new debate is brewing around last year’s two heavyweight choices made by the Ferrari team: they signed the seven-time F1 champion Lewis Hamilton, but failed to secure the design master Adrian Newey. Was this the right move? In response to this question, former F1 driver and Italian legend Riccardo Gabriele Patrese did not draw a direct conclusion, but his attitude was quite clear. He stated that the details of Newey’s negotiations are known only to the parties involved and the executives in Maranello. However, what Ferrari currently lacks is not a star driver, but a real technical core and a clear technical direction. Speaking about the 2026 season, Patrese’s tone became more cautious, even pessimistic. He believes that the Ferrari team has just gone through a disappointing season, during which the management exposed significant shortcomings in handling difficulties, making it hard to have high expectations for the new regulatory period. In the editor’s view, Ferrari’s most important task right now is to build a tight-knit, efficient team rather than passively dealing with problems.
