[Saba Sports News] According to French media reports, Bordeaux’s goalkeeping coach, Wilfried Rastorgue, who has been relegated to the National 1, has been suspended for one year by the French Football Federation’s Disciplinary Committee for making homophobic remarks towards a referee during the eighth round of the Coupe de France match on November 29. Of this suspension, nine months are mandatory.
In the match between Bordeaux and Massayen, Rastorgue verbally abused referee Souleyman Chameau after the game. Reports indicate that Rastorgue shouted, “You’re a piece of shit, you’re garbage, you coward, you fairy, come on, I’m waiting for you!” Rastorgue has been coaching Bordeaux since this summer and reportedly also insulted spectators. He was sent off with a red card after accumulating two yellow cards, and the referee submitted a report detailing the incident.
The French Football Federation’s Disciplinary Committee ruled that Wilfried Rastorgue’s insulting and homophobic remarks towards the referee warranted a one-year suspension—nine months of which are mandatory and three months are suspended. The stringent punishment was justified by multiple yellow cards and threatening, insulting, or excessively inappropriate behavior towards the referee. Wilfried Rastorgue will be banned at least until August 31, 2026.
