[Saba Sports News] Ng Tze Yong will not be selected for the Malaysian team lineup for the Thomas Cup finals, which will be held in Horsens, Denmark, from April 24 to May 3, due to his right knee injury not being fully healed. According to The Star, Lee Chong Wei, the chairman of the Badminton Association of Malaysia’s Performance Committee, confirmed that it would be unwise to risk including Ng Tze Yong in the list while he is still in the recovery phase.
Ng Tze Yong suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during the Malaysia Badminton Masters last May and subsequently underwent surgery at Aspetar Hospital in Doha, Qatar. After about 10 months of rehabilitation, he returned to the court in January this year, but he has not yet resumed full training. Regarding the Thomas Cup lineup, Lee Chong Wei stated that the Malaysian team is likely to include four men’s singles players, with the remaining slots filled by doubles players; however, the list has not been finalized. The Badminton Association of Malaysia hopes for a stable and competitive roster. Currently, two players, Lee Zii Jia and Aidiyudin, have been called up, with the other two men’s singles slots expected to be filled by Leong Jun Hao and HOH Justin.
The editor believes that Ng Tze Yong’s absence from the Thomas Cup is primarily due to his injury, which has prevented him from reaching the competitive state required for participation. His absence is not a last-minute decision but a careful choice made after a comprehensive assessment by the medical team and the Badminton Association of Malaysia.
