[Saba Sports News] Recently, 37-year-old Andy Carroll made his managerial debut, leading his team to a 1-0 victory over play-off rival Torquay United in England’s sixth-tier league, securing a winning start to his coaching career. After this result, Carroll helped his team close the gap to just five points, while their opponents currently hold the final play-off spot in the National League South. As a player, Carroll has represented numerous English clubs including Newcastle United, Liverpool and West Ham United, and has not yet retired. Last July, he joined Dagenham & Redbridge – which competes in the National League South – as a player-owner. The club was acquired by YouTube personality KSI, who became a minority shareholder. Just over two weeks later, Carroll was appointed the team’s interim manager. Carroll also holds shares in the club, but he is due to stand trial in January 2027 on suspicion of breaching a court order by repeatedly contacting his ex-wife.
The editor believes that despite the ongoing off-field controversy, Carroll still successfully led his team to take all three points in his managerial debut. His winning start to life as a coach marks a new chapter in his career.
