Major League Cricket [MLC], the premier Twenty20
league in America, has revealed that its highly awaited second season would
begin on July 4. Four days after the 2024 T20 World Cup, which the US and the
West Indies are co-hosting, comes to an end, the competition is scheduled to
begin on Independence Day.
Due to window restrictions, the first season was
played in a single round robin format; however, the second season is
anticipated to be completed by early August and will likely be played in a
double round robin format.
MLC has not yet revealed the locations of the upcoming
event. It is acknowledged that two more locations might be added by MLC to
their schedule for season 2. In addition to the Grand Prairie and Morrisville
locations, MLC appears eager to take advantage of the 34,000-seat pop-up
facility that the ICC has planned to create in Long Island, New York, for the
World Cup. Earlier, MLC mentioned that World Cup warm-up activities might take
place at their new facility, which is located near George Mason University in
the Washington, DC, area.
“The tremendous success of the inaugural Major
League Cricket season provides a perfect platform to propel American cricket to
even greater heights in 2024,” said Justin Geale, Tournament Director,
Major League Cricket. “We expect to see even more world class players
taking part in season two of Major League Cricket, creating an incredible
summer for the sport in America along with the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.”
In terms of average compensation per league game, the
debut season drew some top-drawer recruits at large signing sums that exceeded
leagues like as the BBL and the SA20. Since there are no scheduled white ball
matches for England, Australia, New Zealand, the West Indies, or Pakistan
during this window, it is anticipated that the second season will maintain a
large portion of the white ball monarchy that was present in the previous one.
