[Saba Sports News] According to British media reports, Liverpool fans will remove their supportive flags to protest against rising ticket prices. Two weeks ago, Liverpool confirmed ticket price increases for the next three seasons, a move that has sparked widespread anger among fans, especially after the club reported record revenues earlier this year. Last season, the club posted an after-tax profit of around £8 million. In announcing the decision, the club noted that matchday operating costs had risen by 85% since the 2016–17 season and that “overall football operating costs continue to rise”. The fan group Spirit of Shankly has urged supporters not to spend money at Anfield and to delay renewing their season tickets until close to the May 25 deadline, in order to send a message to the club’s American owners, Fenway Sports Group. Now, the fan group Spion Kop 1906 has announced that it will take down the flags at Anfield for the remaining matches of the season.
The editor believes that fans feel they have no choice. Year after year, rising costs are pricing more and more fans out of football. They must stand up against the increasing costs of the sport, and they believe being valued is worthwhile.
