Chelsea has been the most impressive team this summer, winning the Europa Conference League and then the FIFA Club World Cup. After the summer transfer window opened, the club has already invested 288 million euros in transfers, mainly focused on strengthening the attack. They have signed: Jamie Gittens (former Borussia Dortmund winger, eight goals and three assists in the Bundesliga last season), Joao Pedro (Brighton forward, 10 goals and six assists in the Premier League last season), Liam Delap (Ipswich Town’s top scorer, 12 goals and two assists last season), and Estevao Willian, a 18-year-old Brazilian prodigy who scored against Chelsea in the Club World Cup. To put it simply, Chelsea now has three different attacking lineups, which can adapt to multiple competitions. The only key player leaving was winger Noni Madueke, but he only contributed seven goals and three assists in the league last season. His departure doesn’t significantly affect the team. Overall, Chelsea has made a significant improvement and is now one of the favorites for the Premier League title.
Last season, Crystal Palace defeated Manchester City to win the FA Cup, marking their first major trophy in club history. Earlier this week, they continued their success by beating Liverpool to win the Community Shield. However, the good news didn’t last long. Just 24 hours after the victory, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) announced its decision, rejecting Crystal Palace’s appeal and revoking their Europa League qualification. As a result, the team will have to compete in the Europa Conference League next season, which could cost them at least £20 million and severely impact the players’ morale. During the summer transfer window, due to the potential participation dispute, Crystal Palace didn’t make any major signings. They only signed: Walter Benitez, a starting goalkeeper from Feyenoord; Borna Sosa, a left-back who couldn’t break into the Ajax starting XI. With the loss of the Europa League qualification, several key players with contracts expiring in 2026 or 2027 are already being linked with moves. These include: Eberechi Eze (midfielder, contract expires in 2027), Odsonne Edouard (striker, contract expires in 2026), Marc Guehi (center-back, contract expires in 2026). It’s expected that Crystal Palace will remain in a state of uncertainty until the transfer window closes.
The FIFA has officially adopted the five-substitute rule, and the Premier League will continue to implement it in the new season. Chelsea has the most luxurious attack in Europe’s top leagues. They can easily switch between different tactical approaches (from A to B, even to C), creating numerous efficient combinations. For defenders, it’s very difficult to adapt to such frequent changes. So, Chelsea is expected to secure an easy victory.
