(SabaSports) According to ESPN salary expert Bobby Marks, the Utah Jazz didn’t use the second-round exception to sign Kyle Filipowski, their 32nd overall pick in this year’s NBA draft. Instead, they used the remaining cap space to give Filipovsky a four-year, $12 million deal, with $3 million in the first year.

If Filipovsky gets a second-round pick, he can only get a four-year, $9.062 million deal, with a first-year salary of $2.087 million. By comparison, Mr. Filipovsky’s current contract totals $12 million and pays him $3 million for each of the next four seasons, with the first two fully guaranteed, a team option for the 2026-27 season and a non-guaranteed team option for the 2027-28 season.
It’s worth noting that the guaranteed amount in Filipovsky’s contract is larger than that of AJ Johnson, the No. 23 pick in this year’s draft, and several late-first-round picks. Even though his draft stock declined in the draft, he didn’t suffer in terms of salary.
