(SabaSports) A continuing financial dispute between Mauricio Pochettino and Chelsea, with the club yet to settle a debt issue, has prevented Pochettino from officially taking over as head coach of the U.S. men’s national soccer team, according to ESPN sources.
Despite Pochettino agreeing to coach the United States, the two sides have yet to sign a final agreement due to pending financial issues. Mikey Varas, the former U.S. under-20 coach, is understood to be in charge of the men’s national team on an interim basis during the upcoming September international break to give Pochettino more time to get to know the U.S. Soccer Federation and its system.
The USFA is expected to discuss the matter at a regular board meeting on Aug. 23, but it is possible that an extraordinary meeting could be called to finalise Pochettino’s appointment before then.
