[Saba Sports News] According to motorsport.com, after the Dutch Grand Prix, 2025 F1 championship leader Oscar Piastri stated that his 34-point gap to McLaren teammate Lando Norris is not a comfortable lead and that he will not become complacent. At the Dutch GP, Piastri and Norris were seemingly on course for another straightforward McLaren 1-2 finish. However, with 7 laps remaining, Norris was forced to retire due to a suspected mechanical failure, dramatically shifting the championship balance in Piastri’s favor. Piastri now leads by 34 points instead of the projected 16. This means Norris must outscore Piastri by nearly 4 points on average per race over the remaining 9 Grands Prix to close the gap. However, Piastri believes the current lead is far from secure. He said: “I wouldn’t say it’s a comfortable gap. As we saw today, one DNF can change the points massively in a instant. So, with a long way to go in the season, it’s definitely not a comfortable margin.”
